The Basset Hound is a beloved and unmistakable breed, known for its short stature, long droopy ears, soulful eyes, and gentle, laid-back personality. Originally bred in France as a scent hound for tracking small game like rabbits and hare, their keen sense of smell is second only to the Bloodhound. Despite their hunting heritage, Basset Hounds have won hearts worldwide as affectionate, easygoing family companions.
Key Characteristics:
Appearance: Heavy-boned with short legs, loose skin, and a long, low-set body. Their expressive faces feature deep wrinkles and large, pleading eyes. Coat colors include tri-color (black, white, and tan), red and white, lemon and white, and mahogany.
